The history of Brenzone

History of Brenzone: even if Brenzone was inhabited by Romans, there are many remains that dated back the first settling in Bronze age. The rocky graffitos dated back to II millennium B.C. that have been found in Castelletto are a clear evidence  of the first settlement.

As it has happened for many other towns, the name of Brenzone seams to derive from the family “Brenzone”  that lived in Castello, one of Brenzone village.

It is assumed that, during various centuries, the area, one of the largest of the province of Verona, has been named also: “Bruncionum”, “Branzonus”, “Brianzono” and “Brenzono”.

Pasts of Brenzone: for its position, Brenzone and its surroundings has always been attacked and conquered from many people all along centuries. For this reason it had to defend itself from assaults. The castle of Castelbrenzone, Campo, Biasa and Trimelone were erected to defend their inhabitants.

If, at the beginning, this land was inhabited by wood-cutters and fisher-men, now it is an important and attractive resort with its 12 kilometers of coast along which tourists can practice several activities.

In the village of Magugnano there is the seat of the city council. In this charming town there is still preserved many Roman testimonies such as the church of Saint Zeno that is assumed to be one of the oldest churches of the lake Garda area.
